<p><bold>Wine tourism development in South Africa.</bold> Wine tourism is a form of special-interest tourism. The phenomenon is growing and developing on a global scale and is considered a driver of economic and social development in rural areas. Wine routes confirm the link between wine and tourism and the potential role that it can play in regional development.</p>

<p>Wyntoerisme is &#x2019;n gespesialiseerde vorm van toerisme (Bruwer <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0001">2003</xref>). Op globale skaal het wyntoerisme die afgelope paar jaar sodanig gegroei dat dit as aandrywer van ekonomiese en maatskaplike ontwikkeling in landelike gebiede beskou word (Ferreira &#x0026; Muller <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0002">2013</xref>). Wyntoerisme word gedefinieer as besoeke aan wingerde, wynkelders, wynfeeste en wynskoue, waartydens wynproe en/of die ervaring van die eienskappe van druiwe- en wynstreke as motivering vir besoekers dien (Hall &#x0026; Macionis <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0003">1998</xref>). Wyntoerisme, as vorm van gespesialiseerde toerisme, is &#x2018;n sterk en steeds groeiende verskynsel in Europa, asook in die &#x2018;Nuwe W&#x00EA;reld&#x2019; (Argentini&#x00EB;, Chili, Nieu-Seeland, Suid-Afrika, die Verenigde State van Amerika, ens.). Wyntoerisme is &#x2018;n toenemend belangrike komponent van die streeks- en landelike toerismeprodukte van hierdie lande, met die ontwikkeling van wynroetes wat die verband bevestig tussen wyn en toerisme, asook die potensi&#x00EB;le rol van hierdie bedryf in plaaslike ontwikkeling.</p>
<p>Wyntoerisme is een van die vinnigste groeiende en mees winsgewende sektore van die globale toerismemark (Williams <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0004">2015</xref>). In 2009 het wyntoerisme &#x2019;n geraamde R4.3 miljard tot Suid-Afrika se toerisme-inkomste bygedra (Williams <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0004">2015</xref>). Die Suid-Afrikaanse wynbedryf is een van die oudstes buite Europa, aangesien die eerste wingerde reeds in die 1650&#x2019;s aangeplant is. Die Suid-Afrikaanse wynbedryf is wel geografies meer gekonsentreerd as in die meeste ander wynlande: 95&#x0025; van die land se 105 000 ha wyndruifwingerde is in die Wes-Kaap waar beide wyn- en toerismeprodukte in &#x2019;n radius van 100 km &#x2013; 200 km vanaf Kaapstad aangetref word (Bruwer <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0001">2003</xref>). Die Suid-Afrikaanse wynbedryf is die agtste grootste in die w&#x00EA;reld, gemeet volgens totale volume wyn (insluitende distillate en sap), maar die elfde grootste in terme van tafelwynproduksie. Volgens die Suid-Afrikaanse Wynbedryf-inligting en -stelsels (SAWIS), het die Suid-Afrikaanse wynbedryf (insluitende wyntoerisme, -produksie, -handel, asook die gasvryheidsbedryf) R36.1 miljard in 2013 gegenereer, en sodoende 1.2&#x0025; tot die land se Bruto Binnelandse Produk bygedra (Williams <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0004">2015</xref>).</p>
<p>Beperkte werkgeleenthede en werkloosheid is &#x2018;n werklikheid in baie lande, ook in Suid-Afrika, met werkloosheidsyfers wat in 2014 met 25.5&#x0025; gestyg het. Hierdie syfer dui daarop dat in 2014 reeds 5.2 miljoen mense in Suid-Afrika werkloos was. Dit is dus belangrik vir enige sektor &#x2013; ook die wyntoerismesektor &#x2013; om tot die ontwikkeling van werksgeleenthede by te dra. In di&#x00E9; verband het die Suid-Afrikaanse wynbedryf in 2013 ongeveer 300 000 werksgeleenthede geskep (Williams <xref ref-type="bibr" rid="CIT0004">2015</xref>). Afgesien van werksgeleenthede, is nywerhede, korporasies, maatskappye, organisasies, ensovoorts, onder toenemende druk om &#x2018;n maatskaplike bydrae te lewer en op &#x2018;n maatskaplik verantwoordelike manier op te tree. Dit kan gedoen word deur beginselvaste morele bestuur, ondersteuning van liefdadigheidsorganisasies en die openbaring van etiese gedrag, wat toenemend ook op die wyntoerismesektor betrekking het.</p>
